Abstract

Starting with a formal defnition of the process of scholarly editing, we further formalize it by exploiting Category Theory. We then apply this formal model to automated Natural Language Processing tools, highlighting the parallelism between composition and associativity and linguistic tool pipelines. We then discuss the notion of interoperability between tools. Finally, we propose some future improvements to the proposed formal model.
